Fans of The Real Housewives of Atlanta have plenty to celebrate as Season 16 approaches, especially with the exciting news that longtime friend Shamea Morton is finally getting her well-deserved peach! After years of standing by her best friend Porsha Williams, Shamea is stepping into the spotlight, ready to share her family’s heartfelt journey, particularly the health journey of her youngest daughter, Shiloh Mwangi.
What Health Condition Does Shamea Morton’s Daughter Have?
Born via surrogacy on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2023, Shamea and her husband Gerald Mwangi welcomed their beautiful baby girl, Shiloh Wanjiru Mwangi, into the world. Born prematurely and weighing 6 pounds, 8 ounces, Shiloh immediately faced challenges. Shortly after birth, doctors diagnosed Shiloh with choanal atresia, a rare congenital condition that occurs when nasal passages are obstructed due to improper development during pregnancy.
In heartfelt posts on Instagram, Shamea opened up about Shiloh’s condition, sharing the difficult moments when her newborn struggled to breathe and was put on a ventilator. Within a week of her birth, Shiloh bravely underwent her first surgery, in which doctors cleared the blockage and placed stents in her nasal passages.
Shiloh’s Journey: Fighting Choanal Atresia and Sleep Apnea
By November 2024, Shiloh faced another challenging chapter in her health journey when she was hospitalized after failing a sleep study. Her oxygen levels had dropped dangerously low due to severe sleep apnea. Thankfully, under the expert care of her medical team, including Dr. Paula Harmon, Shiloh underwent successful surgery to dilate her nasal passages again and had her adenoids shaved down. Shamea joyfully updated her followers, sharing her relief as Shiloh began breathing better almost immediately after surgery.
Celebrating Milestones: Shiloh Turns Two!
Fast forward to February 14, 2025—Shiloh recently celebrated her second birthday, and what a celebration it was! Shamea threw a delightful “Berry Sweet” themed party, filled with joy, laughter, and plenty of strawberries! She proudly shared on Instagram, “My baby is 2!!! She’s a true testament to God’s grace. Her smile is infectious, and she fills our lives with love every single day.”
Shamea also revealed that Shiloh is making remarkable strides in therapy, including taking her very first steps! Although previously diagnosed with club feet and requiring braces, Shiloh is now walking confidently in special supportive shoes. The proud mom continues to document Shiloh’s journey using a nebulizer to manage her breathing condition and celebrated her daughter’s incredible resilience and progress.
